Fostering the art of ballet throughout the South Coast.
Our Story
Founded by Ms. Shirley Kayne in 1986 in a basement studio in the city’s North End, New Bedford Ballet has grown both in size and reputation. In 2009, Ms. Kayne retired, and the school became a 501(c)3 non-profit, offering scholarships and expanding its commitment to community outreach and performance. Over the years New Bedford Ballet has collaborated with The New Bedford Symphony, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, AHA, DATMA, the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, and others.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Rebecca Waskiel-Marchesseault and the Board of Directors, the school continues to offer the highest level of structured dance training in ballet for ages three through adult.
Our Mission
For over thirty years, New Bedford Ballet has continued its mission of fostering the artistry of ballet throughout the South Coast.
Within an atmosphere of inclusivity, professionalism, and creativity, New Bedford Ballet promotes personal, physical, and artistic student growth through teamwork, dedication, passion, and commitment. We seek to build self-confidence while inspiring excellence.
